British Gas and Wrexham Council have today opened Wales’ first council-owned solar farm, at Legacy in North Wales. The partnership has specially designed the farm to generate enough power for 700 homes a year, while providing space for sheep-rearing. Designed, built and commissioned by British Gas, the new solar farm is one of three in the UK to be owned by a local authority. However, the company hinted that it is now keen to work with more local authorities and councils on solar developments. The project demonstrates that solar energy is a “sound investment” with “long-term financial returns”, said Chris Morrison, head of solar at British Gas Business.
