Council buildings in West Lothian are now used as sites for 70 kilowatts of solar panels. The council have installed 300 panels at Springfield Primary School, Linlithgow; West Lothian Civic Centre; the Sutherland Building at Beecraigs Country Park and Whitburn Academy, representing an investment of £130,000 in the carbon saving programme so far. The scheme at Springfield Primary School has generated enough to keep an average house going for a year. The next planned installation is at Linlithgow Academy with other school buildings in the pipeline. Total revenue savings for Linlithgow Academy when the whole system is operation is estimated at £6000 a year.
