The first of 1,000 solar panel systems have now been installed in council homes throughout Leeds. Better Homes Yorkshire, which is responsible for the scheme, is currently erecting scaffolding on houses suitable for the energy generating kit across the city. A full system is typically made up of between eight and twelve solar photovoltaic panels, therefore it takes the Better Homes Yorkshire team, along with council approved delivery partners Keepmoat and Willmott Dixon, three days to complete installing the panels. Tenants will then able to use the electricity generated from the solar panels in their home for free. It’s estimated that overall tenants could save around £4.4m in electricity costs over 20 years, working out at around £136 a year for each tenant.
