A Maryport firm is at the centre of a £2.5 million project set to revolutionise energy and create dozens of jobs. MPM North West Ltd, based on Marine Road, has produced and is testing a wave paddle to capture energy from the sea. Five jobs have already been created thanks to the project and company director Mike Hawkins said it could result in many more. He hopes that Maryport will become a test centre for new and innovative marine renewable energy projects. The project has attracted £2.5 million of funding from Government agency Innovate UK to further the development over the next three years. Britain’s Energy Coast, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Renewable Energy Test and Education Centre have also backed research.
